Nuremberg Area for riders
Nuremberg isn't an alpine town – and yet it's surprisingly easy to get on the bike here. Instead of one big lift resort, Nuremberg and its surroundings have a dense network of trail park, pump tracks and dirt parks, all within reach of an after-work ride.
The spot most people search for is Bikepark Schmausenbuck in the Reichswald, about 6 km east of the centre. Despite the name it's a trail park with no lift: officially opened by the city, free to use, with three descents, a pump track, a trick jump, an uphill trail and a beginner course. Right in town there's Pumptrack Hiroshimaplatz, and heading east along the Pegnitz you'll find Dirtpark RĂĽckersdorf and Dirtpark Lauf an der Pegnitz.
For lift-served park days you head into the Nürnberger Land: Bikepark Osternohe near Schnaittach has a drag lift and three runs – Blue Line, Freeride and Downhill. Towards Fürth and Erlangen, Veitsbronn, Obermichelbach and Großenseebach add more to jump and pump. And for a full day out: Trailpark Heumöderntal in Treuchtlingen, about 57 km south, with six trails and, since 2024, a lift. Who is it for? Anyone who wants to ride midweek without a three-hour drive to the mountains first.

Bikepark Schmausenbuck and Pumptrack Hiroshimaplatz are city-run and free to use; pump tracks and dirt parks mainly need dry days. Bikepark Osternohe is generally open April to October, Friday to Sunday and on public holidays – weather-dependent, so check current hours with the operator first. Schmausenbuck, Hiroshimaplatz and the Pegnitz dirt parks are all within about 16 km of the centre, Osternohe about 26 km to the north-east. Check conditions and the weather window on Lemoyn before you set off – in the woods on the Schmausenbuck that makes the difference after rain.
