About Lemoyn
Lemoyn is a map and directory of mountain bike spots in Europe: bike parks, trail parks, pump tracks, dirt parks and trailheads, with a focus on Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Every spot has its own page with location, trails, reviews and a trail condition that is recalculated several times a day.
Who runs Lemoyn
Lemoyn was founded and is run by Max Auer. He builds the platform, curates the directory and checks spots, corrections and submissions before they go live. Riding impressions, condition reports, reviews and clips come from the community – from the people who actually ride there.
Where the spot data comes from
- The basis is OpenStreetMap and Wikidata. Entries from both sources are merged; possible duplicates are caught by comparing distance and name similarity. Every imported spot starts as a draft and is checked before it is published.
- Anyone can submit a spot or suggest a correction. Both go into a review queue, are compared with existing entries and are only applied after a manual check.
- New and revised descriptions and trail data are checked against information from operators, clubs and municipalities. What cannot be verified there does not go into the text.
- Map data: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
How trail conditions are calculated
The condition on every spot page comes from a water balance model: rain fills up the soil, sun, warmth and wind dry it out again. How fast that happens depends on the individual spot.
- Weather: Precipitation and temperature from Open-Meteo, adjusted to the elevation of the spot.
- Soil: Soil type from SoilGrids (ISRIC). Clay-rich soils hold water longer, sandy soils dry faster.
- Terrain and vegetation: Elevation and slope from the Copernicus elevation model, vegetation from ESA WorldCover. Under dense forest, trails dry more slowly than on an open slope.
- Timing: Recalculated three times a day: in full in the morning, then at midday and in the evening with the rain that has fallen since.
The result is one of five levels – dusty, dry, tacky, wet, muddy – and is labelled “calculated”. Frost and snow are detected separately; if an operator closes the spot, that takes precedence.
Reports from the community always take precedence over the calculation and are labelled “reported”. They carry the most weight while they are fresh, and they also correct the model: if a spot regularly dries faster or slower than calculated, the calculation learns that for this spot.
Weather window
The weather window uses the ten-day Open-Meteo forecast for bike parks, trail parks and trailheads in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A day counts as dry with less than 1 mm of precipitation, at least 5 °C and no snow. The forecast is also updated three times a day.
Reviews and clips
Reviews are written by registered users; spot reviews are additionally confirmed by e-mail. There are no paid reviews. Clips are uploaded by riders themselves, and every clip is checked before it is published. Details are in our review policy.
