Overview

Grisons for riders

Grisons (Graubünden) is Switzerland's largest canton and, for many riders, the beating heart of alpine mountain biking. Nowhere else packs this many vertical metres, lifts and built trails onto one map. The character is clear: plenty of flow, clean berms, jumps in every size – yet a genuine high-alpine backdrop with three-thousanders instead of gentle forest roads. If bike parks and dense trail networks are your thing, this is the place.

The centrepiece is Bike Kingdom Lenzerheide – host of the Downhill World Cup and a huge trail network that runs from the beginner-friendly FLOWline all the way to the brutal World Cup STRAIGHTline. Around it sit heavyweights like Flims Laax, home of the famous Runca Trail, and Davos Klosters. Add Chur as the rail hub with its own local-mountain park. Freeriders, enduro riders and families all find their terrain here – often on the same mountain.

The practical bit: many destinations share one lift-pass network, getting here by train is un-fussily Swiss, and the altitude keeps trails ridable through high summer. Grisons is no longer an insider tip – but it delivers, whether you're rolling your first flow trail or want to put a World Cup line under your tyres.

Trip planning

Plan your trip

Getting there: Chur is the hub – main station of the Rhaetian Railway and PostAuto, with onward trains/buses to Lenzerheide, Flims Laax, Davos or St. Moritz. By car via the A13 (San Bernardino). Many resorts are easy to reach car-free, and the lifts carry bikes.

Best time: Roughly late May to mid-October, depending on lift operation and altitude. High summer stays pleasant thanks to the elevation, and early autumn often serves the best-conditioned trails. Check each resort's lift opening dates first.

Bed & shop: Lenzerheide, Laax, Davos and Chur all have dense infrastructure – rentals, workshops and bike hotels. If you're hitting several parks, a network pass (e.g. Gravity / TopCard options) usually pays off – confirm the details with the lift companies.

FAQ

Where can beginners mountain bike in Grisons?

The easiest start is Lenzerheide's FLOWline or the blue trails at Alpenbikepark Chur and in Davos Klosters. They're mellow, well signed and free of nasty surprises. A pump track like the ones in Chur or Davos is ideal for drilling the basics.

Which are the best bike parks in Grisons?

Bike Kingdom Lenzerheide is number one – World Cup downhill plus a huge trail network. Add Flims Laax with the Runca Trail, Davos Klosters, Alpenbikepark Chur and St. Moritz Corviglia. Together they form one of the densest park landscapes in the Alps.

Can I ride the Lenzerheide World Cup track myself?

Yes. The World Cup STRAIGHTline in the Bike Kingdom is part of the public trail network and lift-accessed – steep, fast and with the famous jump into the finish arena. But it's genuine black-level, so not one for your first park day.

How do I reach Grisons for biking without a car?

Very easily. Chur is the Rhaetian Railway hub; from there trains and PostAuto buses run straight to Lenzerheide, Flims Laax, Davos or St. Moritz. The lifts carry bikes, and many resorts are deliberately set up to work car-free.

When is the biking season open in Grisons?

Roughly late May to mid-October, depending on altitude and lift operation. At elevation it stays pleasant even in high summer. Since each destination sets its own opening dates, it's worth checking the relevant lift company's page before you travel.

Is a network pass worth it for several bike parks?

If you plan to ride several parks, usually yes. Destinations like Lenzerheide, Flims Laax and Davos Klosters share pass offers, so one card can cover multiple lifts. Exact terms change each season – best confirmed directly with the lift companies.
