Overview

Allgäu for riders

The Allgäu is Bavaria's green south: rolling grassy summits, deep valleys and the first real alpine peaks as you head toward Oberstdorf and Hindelang. Where other regions sell pure gravity parks, the Allgäu wins on the mix – from family-friendly valley trails to descents off the mountain.

The anchor for lift-served gravity is BikePark Hindelang in Bad Hindelang. If you'd rather flow through the woods, Trailpark Schuiding sits close by, and the Neuland Trail waits around Immenstadt.

Down in the valleys, spots like Bikepark Memmingen and the Dirtpark im Tannachwäldchen near Sonthofen round out the picture – good for technique, jumps and rainy days. Who is it for? Anyone who wants mountains and flow without the crowds of the big alpine resorts.

Trip planning

Plan your trip

Best season is May to October; in high summer the higher trails ride best. Arrive via the A7 (Kempten or Waltenhofen exit) or by train to Sonthofen, Immenstadt or Oberstdorf. Bad Hindelang makes a good base for the gravity days, with valley and forest trails for easy afternoons. Check lift opening hours and trail status before you set off – Allgäu weather turns fast.

FAQ

Is there a lift-served bike park in the Allgäu?

Yes – BikePark Hindelang at the Hornbahn gondola is the region's classic lift bike park. With natural, technical trails it's aimed more at experienced riders.

Is the Allgäu better for beginners or for pros?

Both. Down in the valley there are more beginner-friendly spots like Bikepark Memmingen, while up the mountain it gets more technical – the Neuland Trail near Immenstadt, for instance, is rooty and steep.

When is the best time to ride in the Allgäu?

May to October. In high summer the higher trails ride best – check lift opening hours and trail status before you set off.

What about Oberstdorf, the Nebelhorn and the famous peaks?

The area around Oberstdorf, Fellhorn and Nebelhorn is the heartland for tour-style mountain biking – long climbs and alpine descents. They are not classic lift bike parks, though.
